There is an increasing demand for health and social care both in the UK and globally.5 This rapidly-growing industry requires individuals with a wide range of knowledge and experience.

This course offers an opportunity to gain an overall understanding of the sector, as professionals need to be flexible and open to new ways of delivering high standards of care. This course covers a range of diverse subjects which include substance misuse, offender management, working with gangs and the management of long-term conditions. You will also have the opportunity to study how to promote healthy living and emotional intelligence in practice.

Year 1

  • Health and Social Care Principles
  • Promoting Healthy Living

Year 2

Students are able to choose a Health (H) or Social Care (SC) pathway.

  • Interpersonal Communication Skills for Managing The Professional Environment
  • Research For Enquiry
  • Work Based Practice in Health and Social Care

Plus three options from:

  • Managing Long-Term Conditions (H)
  • Substance Misuse (H and SC)
  • Community Studies (H and SC)
  • Family Wellbeing (H)
  • Mentoring for Learning (H and SC)
  • Criminology and Criminal Justice (SC)
  • Working with Gangs (SC)

Year 3

Students are able to choose a Health (H) or Social Care (SC) pathway.

  • Contemporary Issues in Social Context

Plus two options from:

  • End of Life Care (H)
  • Learning Disability (H and SC)
  • Mental Wellbeing (H)
  • Professional Management in Health and Social Care (H and SC)
  • Healthy Communities (H and SC)
  • Managing Mentoring (H and SC)
  • Youth and Community Development (H and SC)
  • Counselling and Guidance Skills (SC)
  • Offender Management (SC)

Research option

In the final year students will have the option of choosing one of the following research modules:

  • Professional Engagement
  • Research Project (SEC)

Health and Social Care BSc (Hons)

Tarrif: An appropriate level 3 qualification

GCSE / IGCSE English A*-C grades or equivalent

Students must also complete a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS)
