BA Accounting and Finance (Top up)

Course Overview

Research shows that the UK alone will need around 80,000 additional Accountants by 2050 (Onrec, 2021). This course will allow you to top up your existing qualifications to an honours degree in one year while benefiting from all that Northumbria University has to offer. You’ll build on your all-round knowledge of business, adding expertise in accounting and finance as well as transferable professional and managerial techniques. The course includes specialist modules that cover financial reporting analysis, strategic management accounting, and international financial management. The course provides an excellent foundation for jobs in finance, banking, government, and general business leadership.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Throughout the year, you will become knowledgeable about the theory and practice of responsible business and management in an international context. This knowledge will be fostered through the identification of contemporary professional accounting and finance practice in discipline-specific modules, and cultivate an awareness of the cultural and ethical contexts within which international accounting and finance operate through problem-based learning approaches. The course includes specialist modules in Contemporary Corporate Reporting, Strategic Management Accounting, and International Finance and Financial Management. You will have access to the first-hand experience of financial markets through the use of financial databases such as FAME and OSIRIS, which are available through our library service. You will develop skills in critical thinking and writing techniques during the course of the year on specialised core modules, which focus on employability, and contemporary business issues. During these modules, you will develop personal applications, CVs and cover letters as part of overall career planning to promote future employability. You will be asked to prepare an independent review of the literature on a contemporary business issue of your choice (discipline-specific), which will develop independent thinking and learning, whilst applying knowledge to specific business issues.
